Even with a snowstorm plaguing movie goers this weekend, Identity Thief managed to steal the box office’s top spot away from last week’s number one film, Warm Bodies.

The Jason Batemen/ Melissa McCarthy comedy earned $36.6 million during its opening weekend, not a bad haul especially considering a listed production budget of $35 million.  Take those critics.

Warm Bodies dropped to second places this week, bringing in $11.5 million, helping the zombie love story surpass its $30 million budget.

The Jude Law, Channing Tatum, and Rooney Mara Hitchcock-esque thriller, Side Effects, knocked Silver Linings Playbook out of the third place spot it had been gripping onto for the last few weeks.  With only $10 million in ticket sales during its debut and a $30 million budget, Side Effects will have to hope that this past weekend’s blizzard impacted its potential earnings.

Silver Linings Playbook and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters brought in the rear, with Silver Linings earning $6.9 million, dropping Oscar contender to fourth place, and Hansel & Gretel, claiming the fifth spot with $5.6 million.

The Box Office top 5 chart  is below with the total domestic gross to date in brackets.

1. Identity Thief- NEW

2. Warm Bodies- $11.5 million [$36.6 million]

3. Side Effects- $10 million [NEW]

4. Silver Linings Playbook- $6.9 million [$90 million]
